When contemplating whether
or not to get a Permit to Carry
a Firearm, many people ask
the question, “just how likely
is it that I’ll be a victim of
violent crime?”. While violent
crime has been decreasing
over the last 3 decades,
violent crime can occur
anywhere, at any time.
In Minnesota, there were
nearly 17,000 violent crimes
in 2006, including 120
murders, 2,562 rapes, 5,390
robberies, and 8,655
assaults. That means that
you are 440 times more likely
to be a victim of violent crime
in Minnesota than you are to
die in a house fire; and 17
times more likely to be a
victim of violent crime than
you are to die of a heart
attack for those 60 or under,
and twice as likely for all age
groups. Getting a Permit to
Carry a Firearm is just one
step in developing a
Personal Protection plan.
Mental preparation,
visualization, planning, and
ongoing training are all
components of this lifestyle,
to ensure that we use lethal
force as a last resort, but if
required, we’re prepared to
defend ourselves and our
families.
